BAFI Basic Financial Literacy for Social, Economic and Vocational Inclusion

Year: 01/11/2025 – 29/02/2028
Programme: Erasmus+ VET – Cooperation partnerships in vocational education and training

Project description

BAFI aims to strengthen basic financial skills, offering simple tools, inclusive learning pathways, and greater economic autonomy for young people and adults with fewer opportunities.

Financial literacy is now an essential skill for navigating everyday choices, professional decisions, and future planning. However, many young people and adults across Europe lack the tools to understand key concepts such as saving, budgeting, managing expenses, using banking services responsibly, or preventing over-indebtedness.
BAFI – Basic Financial Education for Inclusive Lifelong Learning was created to address this need by promoting a clear, practical, and accessible approach to financial education.

Co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme, the project brings together partners from several European countries to develop innovative educational materials, digital tools, and training pathways aimed at trainers, VET organisations, young people, and adults experiencing economic vulnerability or professional transition.

Main objectives

  • Strengthen basic financial skills useful in daily life and long-term decision-making.

  • Develop digital resources and teaching methods that make learning simple and engaging.

  • Support teachers and trainers in creating practical, inclusive, and adaptable learning activities.

  • Promote economically informed citizenship able to avoid financial pitfalls and seize opportunities.

What the project will produce

  • A European curriculum for basic financial education, modular and easy to integrate into VET pathways and informal learning.

  • An online platform with materials, interactive tools, and multimedia resources.

  • Guidelines for trainers and educational organisations on how to embed financial education into their programmes.

  • Pilot activities and local workshops to test the resources and engage communities directly.

Target groups

  • VET students;

  • young people preparing to enter the labour market;

  • adults wishing to improve how they manage their personal finances;

  • trainers, teachers, and social workers involved in promoting inclusion.
